Clicks Per Second (CPS) measures how many discrete switch actuations you can register in one second. In competitive gaming (especially Minecraft PvP and fast-firing semi-automatic weapons in FPS games), higher CPS grants decisive mechanical advantages.
4 Main Clicking Disciplines
- Standard Clicking (6–8 CPS): Traditional single-finger index finger clicking. Emphasizes aim stability and comfort with zero hand fatigue.
- Jitter Clicking (10–14 CPS): Rapidly tensing forearm and wrist muscles to transmit micro-vibrations through the fingertip. Achieves high burst speeds but can impair fine crosshair tracking.
- Butterfly Clicking (14–20+ CPS): Alternating two fingers on a wide mouse button shell (like Glorious Model O or Roccat Kain 120), double-tapping the switch per stroke cycle.
- Drag Clicking (25–35+ CPS): Moving a friction-taped finger across the matte surface of the mouse button, using micro-stick-slip friction to chatter the mechanical switch leaf dozens of times per stroke.
Mechanical vs. Optical Mouse Switch Debounce
Traditional mechanical microswitches (such as Omron D2FC or Kailh GM 8.0) require a software debounce algorithm (typically 4ms to 12ms) to prevent physical contact vibration from registering as false double-clicks. Optical switches replace metal leaves with infrared light beams, achieving zero electrical bounce and instantaneous 0.2ms click actuation.
