How to Fix PS4 DualShock 4 Stick Drift

DualShock 4 drift follows the same pattern as DualSense: carbon dust in the ALPS potentiometer wipers. Cleaning and module swaps both work.

Step 1: Measure the exact drift

Run our Stick Drift Detector wired via USB to rule out Bluetooth interference affecting the readings.

Step 2: Clean the potentiometer housings

Open the shell, flush 99% isopropyl alcohol into the green sensor housings, and rotate the sticks fully while flushing.

Step 3: Adjust in-game deadzones

Set an in-game deadzone covering the measured drift as a stopgap while the controller dries or you order modules.

Step 4: Replace the stick modules

DS4 stick modules are drop-in (approx. $8–$12 each) — ribbon cable only, no soldering.

Step 5: Re-test the fix

Re-run the Stick Drift Detector and confirm 0.0%–0.5% at rest on both axes.
